Car Hire Villebon - Mini guide to Villebon
Villebon
Villebon is situated in the area known as Eure-et-Loir, in central France. Most of the interesting features for tourists can be found in nearby Illiers-Combray, which was also the setting for Marcel Proust’s famed work, In Search of Lost Time.
Villebon’s most notable sight is the Château de Villebon, a renowned castle with a moat and drawbridge. The castle was at one time the property of the Duke of Sully. In nearby Saint Eman, visitors will find the Château de Tansonville near the source of the Loire.
One remaining link to Proust’s fiction is Aunt Léonie’s house, home to many items from the author’s personal life, including documents, family heirlooms, portraits and everyday objects from the family’s daily life.
The massive church of St Jacques dominates the town, and is the starting point for several routes exploring sites memorialised by Proust including Uncle Amiot’s garden, Le Pré Catelan, and also places that were featured in Guermantes Way and Swann’s Way.
As most of the attractions are outside the town, the best way to get around will be to hire a car. There are public buses, but limited schedules and routes make relying on public transportation a poor choice for seeing all that the area has to offer. The best option is to book a rental car online, to ensure that you have a vehicle reserved for your arrival at a competitive price.
