Car Hire in Vienna - Getting to Vienna
Vienna is Austria's main air transport hub, and 12 million people a year arrive at Flughafen Wien Schwechat. There are frequent flights to all major European cities, with the bulk of traffic coming from London. Although there are routes to North American cities, as well as Asia and Australia, many choose to fly to the main hubs, such as London, Frankfurt and Amsterdam, then connect or catch trains. Sometimes this is a cheaper or more convenient option. The S-bahn (line 7), takes 30 minutes to and from the airport (20 kms from the centre), running several times an hour from the Westbahnhof or City Air Terminal. Connections are frequent to Linz, Graz, Salzburg, Innsbruck and Klagenfurt.
Vienna is also Central Europe's main rail hub, making train travel a popular alternative. Trains are fast, efficient and can be caught directly to many European cities. The most frequent services are to Bratislava, Ljubljana, Munich and Berlin as well as main centres in Austria. Vienna has several train stations.
Bus connections across Western and Eastern Europe are plentiful, but they're generally slower, cheaper and less comfortable than trains.
The road network is extensive, well maintained and the driving safe. Highways to Salzburg, Linz, Graz, Innsbruck, Bratislava and Budapest are quick and easy.
