Car Rental Venice - Exploring Venice
Venice is surrounded by equally enchanting islands. The Lido is a spit of land protecting Venice and boasts fine residences, interspersed with hotels, tacking touristy shops, pizzerias and good beaches. Its popular with locals. Slightly quieter is Murano and Burano home to the locals who have given up there beloved Venice to guest houses and hotels. Murano is famous for its glass blowing while Burano is known for producing fine lace. Both are enchanting with their sleepy canals, lazing locals, colourful buildings, leaning towers (the Italians are famous for them) and fishing village atmosphere. Surprisingly they remain free from the bulk of Venices hordes of tourists. Even quieter is the strangely time-warped Torcello with its Byzantine cathedral. Regular Vaporetti (water buses) run to all four suburbs.
Although cars arent permitted on Venice, you can easily reach the nearby town of Mestre (15 mins across the land bridge by train) and take off from there to explore the surrounding countryside.
