Vendome is a small city located around 19 miles (30kms) northwest of Blois, on the Loire River. The Place St-Martin is the focal point of the centre and on its western side stands the ruins of Tour St-Martin, a Renaissance church dating from the 15th to 16th century.

The Rue du Change connects at the square’s north-east corner, and is the site of the 15th century Chapelle du Lycée. At the end of Rue St-Jacques, and to the west, is another church dating from the same period – the Church of the Madeleine. The Church of La Trinité, constructed during the 12th century, stands slightly east of Place St-Martin and boasts a highly-decorative façade.

It’s an easy drive to the famous chateaux of the Loire wine country to take in the stunning scenery and taste the wines as well: Vouvray is about 30 minutes by car. The area also boasts excellent restaurants, colourful markets and many concerts and festivals during the summer months.

Places to visit in the city itself can be seen on a walking tour. To visit points of interest in the surrounding area, however, hiring a car is recommended.
