Car Hire in Velizy
Mini guide to Velizy
Velizy
Vélizy-Villacoubly is a small city located south-west of Paris and adjacent to the Meudon National Forest. In the late 17th century, King Louis XIV bought forested land in the area to increase the size of his royal hunting grounds: Velizy was later incorporated into the kingdom’s hunting grounds by King Louis XVI.
The city was burned to the ground by the Prussians twice during the 19th century. In the 20th century, during WWII, the city was seriously damaged when Allied forces dropped bombs intended for the air force base occupied by German troops.
After the war the city was declared a disaster zone and rebuilt under a new urbanisation plan in the 1960s. Two new boroughs, called Louvois and Mozart, were built to the west and east; and a new business park and huge shopping mall was built on the east side.
Although there are not many tourist attractions in the city itself, the world-class cultural venues of Paris and historically-important Versailles are quite close by. Many tourist and business hotels are available in Velizy; and the surrounding area is filled with a range of accommodation options. Shopping and fine dining are well catered for as well.
Getting around Velizy and into Paris can be achieved by using public transport but having a hire car is without doubt the best way to see all that the area has to offer. Booking online in advance is highly recommended, in order to ensure that you will have the car of your choice available; and that you secure the best deal possible.
