Valence is a commune in the southeast of France, on the Rhône river 65 miles (105 kms) south of Lyon on the railroad to Marseille. The city’s main highlight is the Cathedral of St Apollinaris, reconstructed in the 11th century and consecrated in 1095 by Pope Urban II. The library and the museum contain Roman antiquities, sculptures and a picture gallery.
Valence TGV Rail Station is situated in the eastern part of the city, around six miles (10 kms) from the city centre. Opened in 2001, it has significantly decreased travel times throughout eastern France. The station was built for and started services with the LGV Rhône-Alpes that extends from Lyon to Valence as well as to Marseille and Montpellier via the LGV Méditerranée.
