With such a huge landmass, climatic conditions vary quite a bit from east to west. Istanbul enjoys hot summers with temperatures averaging 30°C, but the winters get extremely cold and occasionally rainy. Temperatures drop to single digits.
Typically, the Mediterranean coastline has hot, sunny summers and rainy but mild winters, similar to Greece and southern Italy. Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to November) are best. Everything shuts down between October and April on the coast.
The Black Sea coast is mild and rainy in summer, and chilly and rainy in winter. The mountains of the east get very cold and snowy in winter and are mild in summer, and are most accessible between June to September while the southeast is dry and mild in winter and very hot in summer, sometimes reaching into the 40s C. The Anatolian plateau is cooler in summer and quite cold in winter.
