The northwestern Italian city of Turin lures tourists with its charming old city centre, magnificent churches and superb museums. These assets, together with its convenient location, make Turin an excellent holiday destination.

The renowned, and famously controversial Shroud of Turin is perhaps the city’s most notable attraction. Housed in the magnificent 15th century Duomo, the Shroud draws thousands of visitors each year, each hoping for a glimpse of the sacred relic or intricate forgery, depending on your viewpoint. The church itself is worthwhile touring, and features stunning artwork and architectural design. For those seeking a more in-depth background on the Shroud, there is the Museo della Sindone.

Other buildings of note include the unique Mole Antonelliana; the Gran Madre di Dio, Santuario della Consolata and San Lorenzo churches; the ornate castles of Castello Valentino, Borgo e Castello Medioevale and Rocca Medioevale; the stunning Palazzo Carignano, Palazzo Madama and Palazzo Reale palaces; and the impressive Porta Palatina.
