Tsuchiura is a city with 130,000 in population. Tsuchiura is located 50 kilometers northeast of Tokyo. This city lies on the western side of Lake Kasumigaura, which is Japan’s second largest lake.

There are a wide variety of attractions in Tsuchiura. This city is the host of the Tsuchiura Fireworks Festival that occurs on the first Saturday of every October. This is also known as the All-Japan Fireworks. Around 250,000 people join here every year for this exciting celebration.

There was wonderful castle that was built about 800 meters west of the Tsuchiura station in Kijo Park. Today you can visit the park to see rebuilt structures from this wondrous castle. There are also a few historic warehouses that are freely open to the public. You will also want to visit the Tsuchiura city museum located on the south side of Kijo Park, which is also home to the city’s main police station.

There are many fun and exciting places to shop while you are visiting Tsuchiura. Urala is a discount department store full of several vendors that is located next to the train station and connects to it with an elevated walkway. The basement of this store contains a bakery, ice cream shop, and a supermarket. There are three floors full of shops and restaurants to explore. The fourth and fifth floors have conference rooms and a spacious auditorium. Here in Tsuchiura you will also find Mall 505 which is a three floor mall full of shopping stores located downtown. Wing Department Store is also a very popular store with 5 floors. In the basement you will find tasty and unique food items.

Hotel Marroad Tsukuba is 600 meters north of the main station and it is a comfortable and wonderful place for you to stay during your visit. The main post office is right next door to the hotel.
