Car Hire Trenton - Mini guide to Trenton

Trenton, located on New Jersey’s western border with Pennsylvania, is not only the state’s capital, but also its historic centre. The site of an important battle in the early stages of the Revolutionary War, the city has a number of significant buildings and monuments representative of its past.

Among Trenton’s most visited attractions is the New Jersey State House, with a beautifully restored interior, and the State Museum, which has a fine collection of artefacts that cumulatively tell the story of the state’s past. The Battle Monument is a 45m memorial to the 1776 Battle of Trenton.

Newark, New Jersey’s largest city, is easily accessible by car. Architectural fans will be awed by the beautiful 1743 Trinity Cathedral and the Newark Public Library (1888). New York City, in all its magnificence, is located slightly north of Newark, and offers the visitor unlimited options in the realms of dining, entertainment, culture and much more.

Also close to Trenton is Atlantic City, one of the party capitals of America. The city is sometimes referred to as the ‘Las Vegas of the East’ due to its many glittering casinos and its illuminated boardwalk. Atlantic City’s beaches are another popular feature, with sunbathing popular by day, and gambling, bars, clubs and shows livening up the beachfront by night.

On New Jersey’s southern tip, Cape May is a national historic landmark, and one of the oldest seaside resorts in the state. It has a number of lovely beaches, eateries and historical attractions, including the Cape May Lighthouse, which has been functioning since 1859.

Trenton can be reached by means of the east coast’s primary highway, I-95, which runs directly through the city. Amtrak trains run regularly through Trenton and on to other parts of the country, and NJ Transit offers daily train runs from Trenton to Atlantic City. Greyhound buses connect Trenton, directly or indirectly, with the rest of the country. JFK and LaGuardia airports in New York City and Newark International Airport all serve Trenton.

The major suburbs in Trenton are: Bordentown, Ewing, Florence, Fieldsboro, Hamilton, Lawrence, Levittown, Morrisville, Tullytown and Yardley.
