An important town during the Middle Ages, Toul’s remarkable 17th century wall, including its four gates, remains intact to this day. The exact time of the ramparts’ construction is not known, but most likely the fortified town has existed at this spot since the first written history. The architecture in the old town is in different levels of decay and heavily influenced by past glories. Also positioned here is a principal Gothic cathedral, but unfortunately the building is in poor condition and restoration activities limited.
