La Alcazaba is a military fortress build by the Moors in the 11th century on the remains of a Romans fortress. The fortress lies on a hill top with an amazing view back over the town and the sea.
Further east is the little village of Nerja full of white houses and beautiful views specially known for its 3000 years old caves.
Inland and to the west, Mijas is another interesting village to stop off at. It is located in the mountains and a popular way of touring the picturesque little town is in one of the many donkey taxis.
Nearby Fuengirola has an aqua park, a zoo and a host of sea sports available to leisure lovers.
Still further west, you reach the most popular golf courses in Spain, located between the towns Marbella and Estapona. Marbella is also known as the Monaco of Spain with exclusive seaside resorts, a port with luxurious yachts, expensive restaurants and designer shops.
