Car Hire in Tilburg - Mini guide to Tilburg
Tilburg is a city in the Netherlands that is located in the south. It is located in the province of Noord-Brabant. This is the location of Tilburg University and three railway stations: Tilburg West, Tilburg Centraal, and Tilburg Reeshof. Tilburg is an old city, with its history going back to 709 or even further, but not much is known about the city before then. Tilburg Castle was a famous building in the region, but destroyed to make way for a factory in 1858. The castle now can only be seen on the city logo and city arms. Around 1995, a replica of the castles was restored on the same location of the original castle once the factory was torn down. Tilburg is a beautiful place to visit, a great way to see the city and its surrounding countryside is to hire a car.
In July, Tilburg holds one of the largest ten day fun fairs in the Benelux area. The first Monday of this fair is called the Roze Maandag, or Pink Monday. It is a gay oriented celebration, but is enjoyed by everyone. Other festivals that take place in the city are the a festival for independent cultural called ZXYW, the Festival Mundial, and the Stranger Than Paranoia, a jazz festival held annually.
The city of Tilburg was once the wool capital of the Netherlands, mainly because the poor farmers living in the hamlets made more money from selling already woven products instead of selling the wool. The industry boomed for many years until the 1960s when it collapsed. Now Tilburg is varied in the industries that bring in the most money.
