Car Hire in Teotihuacán - Getting to Teotihuacán
Teotihuacán is located about 50kms northwest of Mexico City. If you are travelling by car, take Highway 85D northwest out of Mexico City. The journey takes about an hour. A taxi may work out prohibitively expensive, though sometimes tours with a car and driver/guide can be arranged for a reasonable fee if you want the convenience.
The closest international airport is in Mexico City. From there, youll have to drive or take a bus to reach Teotihuacán. The Aeropuerto Internacional Benito Juarez, Mexico Citys only passenger airport, lies six kilometres east of Centro Historico. AeroMexico and Mexicana are the countrys two largest airlines. Several airlines have direct flights from Europe to Mexico City, and there are at least 25 airlines flying direct from USA and Canada.
Buses make the trip from Mexico City's northern bus terminal to the pyramids about every 30 to 60 minutes. Check that your bus goes to the site entrance and not just to the town of San Juan Teotihuacán nearby. The trip takes around an hour, and the buses run until about 18:00.
Organized tours to Teotihuacán are also available from Mexico City, either as part of a group on a bus, or by private car that will give you added flexibility during your trip. Most travel agencies offer half or full day tours to the site, often combined with the Plaza de la Tres Culturas and the Basilica of Guadalupe, both of which are outside the city centre.
