Car Rental Teotihuacán - Exploring Teotihuacán
One of the worlds biggest and busiest metropolises, Mexico City, is situated only 30kms away. Mexico Citys Cento Historico is built on the ruins of the original Aztec capital which was destroyed by the Spanish Conquistadors. This area contains most of the colonial architecture and it is centred on the Plaza de la Constiticion. Major landmarks near the square are the Palacio Nacional, Catedral Metropolitana, Templo Mayor and Museo del Templo. The latter houses one of the most extensive archeological collections in the world and sheds a colourful light on pre-Christian Mexico.
The citys most famous and grandest street, the Paseo de la Reforma, runs from the Centro Historico to the vast Chapultepec Park. This expanse of green is home to a zoo, lakes and the world-renowned Museo Nacional de Antropologia. Another popular park is Alameda Central, which has the Palace of Fine Arts, housing Mexicos greatest art works, on its eastern side.
The two southern suburbs of Coyoacan and San Angel are popular with visitors and locals who come to see their narrow cobbled streets, colonial buildings and pavement café culture.
About 20kms south of the centre is Xochimilco, with its intricate canal system lined by beautiful gardens and agricultural plots. Scores of Mexican gondolas cruise along the canals along with musicians and singing and dancing party-goers, creating a fun-filled party atmosphere.
Nearby is the Basilica de Guadalupe where Mexicos patron saint, Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe, first appeared in a vision in 1531. The revered lady is credited with performing many miracles and her saintly image is everywhere.
