Getting to Tenerife
The Canaries are remotely situated off the north western coast of Africa and are only realistically reached by plane. All the main islands in the Canaries have international airports. Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Lanzarote accept the bulk of the international flights and those from mainland Spain. You can fly to the Canaries from most European cities, sometimes stopping over in Spain. Trans-Atlantic visitors usually arrive via a European stop over. There are plenty of package deals and charter flights arriving here. Inter island flights are numerous.
Tenerife is the only Canary Island with two airports. Los Rodeos airport is situated in the north of the island near La Laguna, while the Reina Sofia airport is in the south near the Costa del Silencio, a few miles from Las Americas/Los Cristianos, and now handles most the international flights. Both are modern and busy. There is also no shortage of taxis waiting for you outside, but if youve arrived on a package deal, theres likely to be a shuttle waiting for you.
There is a weekly ferry from the southern Spanish port of Cádiz. There are also regular inter-island ferries.
