Car Hire in Telluride - Getting to Telluride
Telluride Regional Airport is situated eight kilometres west of the city, and is served by America West Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Airlines, Frontier Airlines, Great Lakes Airlines and United Express Airlines.
The airport serves direct flights to and from a number of American cities, including: Denver, Dallas/Fort Worth, Phoenix, Newark, New Jersey, Houston and Chicago. Another option for visitors to the region is to fly into Montrose Airport, and continue the journey to Telluride by road, stopping at attractions along the way. From both these airports, shuttle services are available for transport into town, but these should be booked well in advance.
Telluride is accessible by means of several state and national highways. It is located on Colorado 145, northeast of Cortez. From Durango, in summer, take US 550 north to Colorado 62, and at Placerville, turn left on to Colorado 145, then continue straight to Telluride. In winter, it's best to take the route through Cortez and avoid Red Mountain Pass above Silverton. From Montrose, leave US 550 at Ridgway, turning on to Colorado 62, then left on to Colorado 145.
Currently there is no rail service available to Telluride. Greyhound buses arrive daily in the town of Montrose; from here you will need to make alternate arrangements to get to Telluride.
