Car Hire Tegucigalpa - Mini guide to Tegucigalpa
The capital of Honduras, Tegucigalpa or Tegus as it is known by many, is spread out over a valley and hillside. The city sits on one side of the River Choluteca which separates Tegucigalpa from Comayaguela. This is not as popular a tourist destination as San Pedro Sula but is an interesting place to spend a few days touring with cheap car hire in Tegucigalpa.
The two most popular places to see in the city are: Parque La Leona that is an old part of Tegucigalpa where, and once you've twisted and turned your way through the narrow lanes, you will find a some great city views; Parque el Picacho, also has fine views and is named after the statue of Jesus Christ that can be seen from all over the city. Car parking is available for those using car rental in Tegucigalpa.
There are many other interesting things to see and do in the city including museums, shops and markets and good places to visit nearby with car hire in Tegucigalpa. These include the villages of Santa Lucia, San Juancito and Valle de Angeles.
The city suffered major damage when it was ravaged by Hurricane Mitch at the end of October 1998. The River Choluteca and its tributaries could not cope with the relentless rainfall and burst their banks causing considerable destruction of the city. Many of the city's historic buildings were destroyed and some would say that the city still has not recovered.
