Car Rentals Sweden - Weather in Sweden
Sweden has a relatively mild climate, despite its northern position. The summers (May July) are hot, sunny and beautiful but get shorter and colder the further north you go. Many camping grounds and tourist attractions are only open during this time. Temperatures are highest in Stockholm during July at about 22 degrees C where you have 9-10 hours of solid sun. In the northern mountains it can drop to 11 degree at this time and you should even be prepared for occasional snow fall. Winters (November March) get bitterly cold, especially in the north. Many coastal ports are frozen all winter, while the Stockholm archipelago can be iced in for a couple of months. The rains begin in August and it can be both hot and wet at this time. Sweden's northern latitude means that it never gets really dark from mid-May to late July, with the opposite extreme being a pervasive dullness and little sun during the winter months. Annual rainfall is greatest around Gothenburg at well over 700mm and falls mainly as snow in Lapland, blanketing the region for 200 days of the year.
