Getting to Stuttgart

Getting to and from Stuttgart

The Stuttgart International Airport offers frequent flights on most major international and domestic airlines, with several daily trans-Atlantic many more to European cities. It's conveniently located just 13km from the city centre. Getting into the city is a comfortable 30-minute train ride.

Hauptbahnhof train station lies north of the main shopping street, and the Tourist Office (i-Punkt) is directly opposite the station. A three-day train pass is great value and includes travel to and from the airport. A regular train service runs between Stuttgart and many regional destinations, as well as to several major international cities.

The buses into town are cheaper but slower, especially in peak traffic hours. You don't need to show your ticket when you board the bus, but there are large fines if you're caught ticketless during random inspections.

Stuttgart is home to the Porsche and Mercedes Benz, so driving is an ideal way to get around. The roads are in excellent condition and routes are well-marked. If you rent a car at the airport you can take the Autobahn into the city - there are two major routes.

Bicycles are also an easy way to get around Stuttgart, and can be rented from the Tourist Office.
