Located on the south side of Tampa Bay, this beautiful city was built up during the 19th century as a winter getaway for the wealthy from America’s Northeast. Today St. Petersburg is a modern resort city that retains many of the charms that brought the idle rich of another era to take in the healing warmth.

The Salvador Dali Museum is indubitably it’s greatest attraction. This attractively modernist museum is the home to the most comprehensive collection of work by this 20th century genius. Housing oil paintings, watercolors, sculptures, graphics and more by the artist, this museum is a must see for Dali fans.

Other significant attractions in this city include the Museum of Fine Arts and the Florida International Museum. The Museum of Fine arts resembles a Mediterranean villa and contains European, American, pre-Columbian and Far Eastern art. The Florida International Museum contains a suburb exhibit on the history of the Cuban Missile Crisis and two rotating exhibits on loan from the Smithsonian in Washington DC.

For leisure, St. Petersburg’s Pier is a festive pyramid with excellent restaurants, nearby hotels, catwalks for fishing, boat docks, and an aquarium, all overlooking the beautiful bay. Or, for a walk into the past, the Sunken Gardens offer 7-acres of beautiful botanical gardens where the ultra-wealthy used to walk on their holiday.

St. Petersburg is well located for ventures to other places in beautiful Florida. Immediately across the bay is fascinating Tampa, and not far by car is Orlando with its famous Walt Disney World theme park.

To get to St. Petersburg you can fly into Tampa International Airport across the bay, which has daily flights to cities around the US, Mexico and a few European cities, or in some cases you can fly directly to St. Petersburg Clearwater International Airport. Miami International Airport and Orlando International Airport are both within 3-hours drive.
