Car Hire in St Louis - Getting to St Louis
Lambert-St Louis International Airport is the largest airport in Missouri and among the busiest in North America, with 83 gates and flights operated by 10 major airlines. The airport has direct scheduled flights to and from most major American cities, and daily flights from Kansas City, Jefferson City, Springfield and Independence.
The airport lies about 20 minutes northwest of St. Louis central and is linked to the city by the MetroLink light rail system, located on the upper level of the main terminal. The journey to the city centre costs about US3. Taxis are also available, but far pricier, at between US25 and US30.
The major east-west route into St Louis is I-70, coming in from Kansas City and continuing on to Indianapolis. I-55 runs from Chicago in the north and Memphis in the south. I-64 comes in from the southeast (Louisville); while I-44 comes from the southwest (Springfield).
On the other side of the state, I-55 connects to I-35, which goes south to Austin and San Antonio, Texas, and north to Minneapolis. I-64 also runs by Branson from St. Louis. Beyond the state, I-70 goes east to Baltimore, Maryland.
Amtrak trains offer passage to and from Chicago and Kansas City, taking about five hours, 30 minutes each way. From Chicago, trains run to all parts of the east coast and the Midwest. The Amtrak station is located about two blocks east of Union Station.
Greyhound buses are the cheapest but least comfortable option. The Greyhound network is extensive, running directly or indirectly to most destinations across the country.
