Located on the Bay of Biscay, San Sebastián enjoys a stunning location and upmarket reputation, centred around the sweeping bay of Playa de la Concha - one of the most beautiful city beaches in Spain. Bilbao was once a major port on the Bay of Biscay, today it’s notable for its unusually shaped Guggenheim museum. Many Christian pilgrims find their way out west to Santiago de Compostela.
South of Madrid, Toledo is one of Spain's most magnificent historical towns, with its intact medieval city of narrow winding streets, crammed with fascinating museums, galleries, churches and castles. Most distinctive are the ramparts and many ancient gates of the old city wall.
