Car Hire Solihull - Mini guide to Solihull

Located on the River Blythe in West Midlands, central England, Solihull lies adjacent to the county’s largest city, Birmingham. Solihull has a charming traditional atmosphere, making it a more preferable base than its larger, more industrial neighbour from which to explore the region.

The centerpieces of the town’s architectural heritage are the lovely 13th-century church of St Alphege and the elegant 18th-century Malvern Hall, now a private school. More history and culture can be soaked up at Avoncroft Buildings Museum, Baddesley Clinton, and Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. Explore the charming narrow streets and lanes and take relaxing walks either to Earlswood or Marston Green.

Solihull’s area is a great place for families with children of all ages. There are a wealth of edutainment attractions, such as Umberslade Children's Farm, Hatton Countryworld, Alton Towers Theme Park, Birmingham Sea Life Centre, Birmingham Thinktank and IMAX Theatre, and Cadburys World. Railway enthusiasts can indulge themselves in the excellent Tyseley Locomotive Works and ride on the Shakespeare Express to nearby places of interest.

The town has plenty of quality accommodation and restaurants. The nightlife scene is rather subdued; those seeking more excitement should skip across to Birmingham to sample the numerous discos and clubs on offer.

There are some great expanses of greenery for nature lovers, with the pick of the spots being the Ackers Trust and the Elmdon Manor Nature Trail. For those with time to spare, to the south lie Worcestershire and the beautiful Malvern Hills, perfect for hiking, camping and cycling, while the Cotswolds offer more scenic hilly terrain where you can discover quaint little villages and pleasant open expanses. To experience some stunning architectural heritage, head southeast into Warwickshire.

Solihull is just 4 miles from Birmingham International Airport, which has limited services to Europe but many connections from London’s air transportation hubs.

If you're traveling by road, the M42 motorway passes within 2 miles of the town centre, providing easy access to the M6, M40 and M5.
