Car Hire Slovakia - Mini guide to Slovakia
After a slow start following the break up of Czechoslovakia, Slovakia is now emerging as a pleasantly quiet alternative to many of the other newly roaring eastern European countries.
Bratislava, Slovakias largest city and capital, is a friendly city with a thriving cultural life. The old city and castle are the most interesting places in Bratislava. Here you will find the Municipal Museum and the Museum of Wine Production. The castle above the Danube was originally a Roman Frontier post and was recently renovated. Beside the castle you will also find the Slovak National Museum and the Slovak National Gallery.
Bratislava contains good accommodation options as well as opportunities for dining and going out. Trencianske Teplice, a spa town in the western part of the country has a thermal swimming pool, five hot sulphur springs and a Turkish bathhouse.
One of the most beautiful places in Eastern Europe, the Vysoke Tatry, is one of the smallest high mountain ranges in the world. Here you will find numerous mountain lakes and streams as well as great opportunities for summer hiking and breathtaking scenery.
If you choose to take a tour around the country by car, there are several locations offering natural beauty. The Mala Fatra National Park offers good hiking opportunities during the summer and skiing during the winter. The Dunajec Gorge on the Polish border has 500m limestone cliffs and a fortified 14th century Carthusian Monestary.
Slovakia can be reached by air through frequent connections from Prague to Bratislava. From Prague you can catch regular flights to cities around Europe and the rest of the world. It is also very easy to get to Bratislava by rail.
