Car Hire Slough - Mini guide to Slough
Located in northern Berkshire, Slough is a pleasant, less hectic base from which to explore the many attractions of the region. The town has its own fair share of architectural heritage, as well as comfortable facilities for visitors.
Slough Museum on Slough High Street makes for an exciting trip out for all the family. Admission is free and there is disabled access. Take A Journey Through Time and discover Sloughs history, from mammoths to the modern day, or visit the temporary exhibitions showing work by local groups. There are drop-in childrens activities throughout the year and special events for families during the holidays.
Around the town are several historic buildings. St Laurence's Church in Upton is about 900 years old, while parts of Upton Court (home to the Slough Observer newspaper now) were built in 1325. St Mary's Church in Langley was probably built in the late 11th or early 12th century, though it has been rebuilt and enlarged several times.
The town has ample accommodation as well as some excellent restaurants. Nightlife is subdued, with charming old pubs and bars creating a relaxed atmosphere.
The region surrounding Slough contains some of Englands most historic and picturesque attractions. Just to the south lies magnificent Windsor Castle, while the less crowded but no less splendid Highclere Castle and Basildon Park Historic Home offer plenty of options for daytrips.
Slough is just 35kms from London via the M4 motorway. There are also frequent trains to and from Paddington station.
