Situated in Sardinia, Sassari is a town in the Sassari province. In respect to area wise distribution it is the 2nd largest city and the 3rd largest municipality after Rome and Ravenna. Its topographical definition explains the limestone tableland. It is inclined in the direction of the Golf of Asinara. A hilly region towards the southeastern end and the extensive ‘Nura’ plains towards the northwest encircle Sassari.
Its coastline is 32 km, containing the panoramic beaches, Porto Ferro, Platamona, Argentiera and Fiume Santo. The region enjoys a maritime climate that fluctuates mostly between temperate and mild. This ancient town is filled with significant monumental buildings. This includes the Palazzo Ducale St. Nicholas Church, Rosello Fountain, Piazza Italia and the Palazzo Giordano.
The St. Nicholas Church is fascinating. It’s got the old feel, and its baroque façade and statues of martyrs are inimitable. The bell-tower, its gothic style XIII Century interiors, all attract every visitor.
The Palazzo Ducale goes back to the XVIII century. The municipal administration bought the place in 1900 and at present it hosts the small town hall. Gugliemo Bilancioni lent his name to the decoration of the rooms at the Palazzo Giordano, which was constructed in 1878. The Piazza d'Italia is mammoth and is spread over an area of one hectare, nicknamed Sassari’s lounge it was built in 1872.
If you’re visiting, you won’t fail to notice the numerous churches in this town. The St. Mary's, and St. Nicholas church are popular.

So if Sardinian art fascinates you, then you must make a trip to the Sardinian craftsmanship pavilion in the city center where art exhibitions are held. Visiting the Archaeological Museum of Sanna will be high on your list as a lot of great masterpieces are housed here.
