Car Hire Santorini Island Port - Mini guide to Santorini Island Port

Santorini, Greece, is a circular archipelago of islands located in the south Aegean Sea, forming the southernmost part of the Cycladic Islands. It has become one of Greece’s tourist hotspots due to its spectacular sunsets, breath-taking landscape, black and red beaches, and beautiful villages. It is an ideal holiday destination for couples, families, and groups of friends looking to have a great time. Santorini also offers its visitors many shopping opportunities and a blasting nightlife.

The charming village of Fira is the capital of the island, and is made up of a collection of stepped streets perched high on a volcanic cliff. You will find many shops, galleries, restaurants, and nightclubs there. Fira’s Theotokopoulou Square is the main meeting point for both locals and tourists alike. The exquisite town of Oia is renowned for its spectacular view of the sunset, and its small streets will usually be full of people in the evenings. Its white houses and blue-domed churches contrasting with the color of the sea produce an unbelievably magical atmosphere.

Thousands of visitors flock to Santorini annually to see its Caldera, the island’s submerged volcano crater and most important landscape feature. Most of the beaches are endowed with a unique type of black sand, which makes them particularly enchanting. Perissa Beach is a long stretch of black sand on the southern part of the island. It is perfect for anyone looking to engage in water-sport activities or linger at a beach bar. Red Beach, near the quiet village of Akrotiri, is the most extraordinary one due to the red colour of its sand.

Renting a car is probably the best way to explore the island and travel from town to town. The road conditions are quite good, although there are some points on the road which are a little narrow. For international visitors, Santorini is easily reached by plane via Athens. There is also regular ferry service from Thessaloniki port or Crete.
