Car Hire in San Diego - Getting to San Diego
San Diego's Lindbergh Field International Airport has some direct international flights but most likely youll need to get a connection from Los Angeles, which takes 35 minutes. The airport is situated just 5kms northwest of the downtown area and is serviced by local buses, shuttle buses and taxis.
Amtrak runs services up and down the coast from LA to Santa Barbara. There are trains leaving for LA several times a day and the trip takes about three hours. The main train station, the Santa Fe Depot, is on the western edge of the city centre. There are also local trains from the Santa Fe Depot to towns along the north coast.
Greyhound bus operates from the centre of downtown with regular buses to LA, the Mexican border and east to Phoenix and Tucson. The bus trip to LA is actually quicker than the train, taking only 2.5 hours. The Mexican border is just over half an hour away.
Driving from LA To San Diego takes only two hours and is often more convenient than getting a connecting flight. The main Californian freeway, the I-5, runs north south along the coast and is only a few kilometres from downtown San Diego.
