Car Rental San Diego - Exploring San Diego
Situated on the southern coast of California, San Diego has miles of beautiful coastline to offer. One of the more interesting spots along the coast is Encinitas. This coastal bluff 35kms north of the city is home to the Self Realization Fellowship, founded by Yogi Paramahansa Yoganada in 1937. There are meditation gardens open to the public and the beach below has excellent surfing conditions. Inland, there are commercial flower farms and the Encinitas' Quail Botanical Gardens has an extensive collection of exotic as well as native flora.
80kms east of San Diego lies Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. With over 600,000 acres it is the largest desert state park in the United States. Visitors may also have the chance to see roadrunners, golden eagles, kit foxes, mule deer and bighorn sheep as well as desert iguanas, chuckwallas and four species of rattlesnake. Highway 79 runs through the park, giving easy access to the centre.
The Mission San Luis Rey Francia, near Oceanside, 50kms north of San Diego, is a beautifully restored Spanish mission which at one time was the largest in California. It was famous for its success in converting local Indians. It now has displays on life in the mission and some interesting religious artifacts.
