Car Hire in Salzburg - Getting to Salzburg
Salzburg isnt very large but does however have an international airport with scheduled flights to European and Austrian destinations. Alternatively the busier airport in Munich is less than two hours away, or the European hub in Frankfurt is also easily reachable by high-speed train. Overseas visitors generally arrive via this airport or Vienna. The airport is less than 4kms west of the city, and the there are regular buses into the centre, while taxis are also an affordable option.
Salzburg is well served by IC (InterCity) and EC (EuroCity) train services. Trains in Austria are comfortable, clean and reasonably frequent. The trip to Switzerland via the St Anton valley is especially spectacular.
Bundesbuses depart from outside the Hauptbahnhof but are more suited to local travel.
Road travel in Austria is easy, the network is good, safe and uncrowded. Routes south through the Alps are scenic but slow going, but the highway to Vienna is much quicker. Access to nearby Germany is also easy, with convenient border formalities and the added bonus of German autobahnen.
