Car Rental Salt Lake City - Exploring Salt Lake City
While youre here its a good idea to visit the lake that gave the city its name. Great Salt Lake is about 16kms northwest of downtown and is the largest lake in the USA west of the Great Lakes. The Great Salt Lake has been declared a World Heritage bird sanctuary so its a treasure for birdwatchers.
North of the city centre lie Farmington, Hill Air Force Base, and Ogden, home to the Hill Aerospace Museum, Eccles Dinosaur Park, and Lagoon Amusement Park. This is a good option for families or those just out for some fun!
To the east of the city (about 40kms) lies the magnificent Wasatch Front. These craggy peaks and bucolic valleys shelter Park City and world-renowned ski resorts such as Deer Valley, Park City Mountain Resort, and Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort. There is world-class skiing on offer here (Park City was the headquarters of the US ski team at the 2002 Winter Olympics) as well as great accommodation facilities.
Mt Timpanogos, located 65kms southeast of the city, boasts the Timpanogos Cave National Monument. The caves contain underground pools and interesting geological structures. It involves a small hike that climbs up to 300m but the views are worth it.
