Rudolstadt was established in 776AD. The former residence of the prince of Rudolstadt is built along the banks of River Saale inside a broad valley which is surrounded by woods. The Castle Heideckburg is a landmark and stands on a hill above this old town. A walk along the banks of Goethe, Schiller and Schopenhauer Rivers is a must for all visitors to Rudolstadt.
Rudolstadt holds the “Tanz n’ Folk Fest”, the biggest world music festival, in the first week of July. It continues for 55 hours, rather 3 days continuously. The festival hosts more than 50 bands. The festival is scheduled from the 4th to 6th of July for the next year i.e. 2008. Besides, it will include RUTH – the German World Music Award, Children’s festival, various workshops and a chill out night. Seminars, exhibitions and street music concerts are additional add-ons to this festival.
According to the past tradition an extra concert is been planned for the inauguration of the festival, on the 3rd of July at the courtyard of Rudolstadt’s baroque Heidecksburg.
