Car Hire Rotterdam - Mini guide to Rotterdam
As the worlds busiest port, Rotterdam is a thoroughly modern city and most visitors come to appreciate the extensive and outstanding collection of art. Despite the old city being destroyed in WWII, a modern city has since been built with commercial and residential areas lying on both sides of the Maas river.
Situated in Central park overlooking the city, the Euromast tower, is one of Rotterdams main attractions. More than 600 ft high, it provides spectacular panoramic views over Rotterdam city and harbour and the Space Cabin at the tip allows you to experience the sensation of rocket launching.
Delfshaven, these days a trendy area with many galleries, cafes and restaurants, is one of the last remaining areas of old Rotterdam still portraying gabled houses and a windmill. Its historical significance along the ambience and quaint typical Old Dutch buildings make the visit well worth while. Here you can see the Pilgrim Fathers Church and the Admiral Piet Heyn statue a famous Dutch naval hero.
Museum park, an easy stroll along the canal from Eendrachtsplein Metro station, houses three of Rotterdam's art institutions around the landscaped gardens: the Rotterdam Art Gallery (Kunsthal) hosts major temporary exhibitions in a massive, multistory exhibition centre; the Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum has extraordinary early primitives by many famous painters; and the Nederlands Architectuurinstituut with architectural works on display.
Rotterdams nautical museum, situated along the Leuvehaven inner harbour, has exhibitions, models and memorabilia, as well as the war ship, De Buffel, which is moored alongside the museum.
The Arboretum Trompenburg is a unique botanical garden in the heart of Rotterdam and it's the best place to enjoy the nature and tranquility in this noisy Dutch city. You can see beautiful plants and trees from all around the world for only five guilders.
