Car Rental Rosslare - Exploring Rosslare
Exploring the picturesque countryside around Rosslare harbour will take you through lovely parks, charming towns and villages, and some of the prettiest scenery in Ireland.
Located in the centre of the county and up the N11 highway is the town of Enniscorthy, situated on the river Slaney. The town is nestled against the beautiful backdrop of Vinegar Hill and dominated by a Norman castle, now a museum. The area is renowned for its annual Strawberry Fair, Blackstairs Blues Festival, pottery industry and Marconi connection.
The low-lying Hook Peninsula, which forms the eastern boundary of Waterford harbour, is located in the southwestern corner of County Wexford, and is famous for its wreck diving and wild landscape. One of the oldest operational lighthouses in the world is located on its tip.
Waterford has some spectacular river scenery with the rivers Suir and Blackwater running through the county. The city has been strongly influenced by the Vikings and has a distinct medieval atmosphere with narrow alleyways and fine Georgian houses. Additionally, the area around Reginalds Tower is particularly attractive.
The city has become best known for its world famous Waterford Crystal Factory, where visitors can take a tour to see first-hand the entire process of crystal glass making. Up until the 17th century, Waterford was Irelands second-largest city, and to this day it has the best remaining city walls (after Derry).
Kilkenny is the southeast's prime inland city, and considered the medieval capital of Ireland because of its remarkable collection of well-preserved castles, churches, public buildings, streets and lanes. Perhaps more interestingly for shoppers, the city is also the national centre for crafts and design; it boasts the country's best selection of pottery, woodwork, jewellery and other handmade items.
Kilkennys lively pub and entertainment circuit (including several comedy festivals throughout the year) also makes the city a top weekend getaway destination for Dubliners, locals and tourists alike.
