Brazil's national airline, Varig, links Rio to international and domestic destinations. Many international airlines also operated out of Rio, with Aerolineas Argentinas, American Airlines, British Airways, Qantas and United Airlines amongst the principle airlines. Galeão Antonio Carlos airport is the major international gateway to Brazil, and is situated 20 km north of Rio, on Governor's Island in Guanabara Bay.

Two terminals are present in the airport, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. As the two terminals aren't far from one another, the connection is provided by a travelator.

You will find a number of banks provided in Terminal 1 as well as bureaux de change. 24-hour facilities include left luggage, first aid, a snack bar and post office, with further facilities including lockers, shops and tourist information.

For dining and snacking, several restaurants are on hand in Terminal 1 and numerous restaurants and cafés may also be found in Terminal 2's central commercial area. Shops are positioned in Terminal 1 and in the central commercial area of Terminal 2, with a pharmacy and small 24-hour hospital also available in Terminal 1.

For business travellers, conference and business facilities may be found at the Luxor Hotel which is situated at the airport (tel: + 21 3398 3223).

Those with special needs are catered for with lifts, automatic doors, adapted telephones and specially-designed toilets. Disabled car parking spaces are also provided.

Further information is available at the Infraero information desks, found on the second floor of the blue sector in Terminal 1 and on the departures floor in Terminal 2. Automated information screens are also on hand in Terminal 2.
