ReutlingenLocated in the southern part of Baden Württemberg, is the capital of the eponymous district, Reutlingen. It is often called The Gate to Swabian Jura as it lies next to the Swabian Jura. Reutlingen possesses a university of applied science, which was originally established at 1855, and called as a weaver’s school. Now it is the root of the textile industry with branches in leather goods, steel products etc.
One of the finest High Gothic churches in Reutlingen is St. Mary’s Church. This church has the 14th C. wall paintings and a font of 1499 in its rear part. At its southwest part is Zwinger, a token of the town’s old weaponries. Another attraction of Reutlingen is the church of Virgin Mary, built between the 13th and 14th century, in Gothic style. Near to it is a statue of Emperor Fredrick II.
Schloss Lichtenstein is a castle on a hilltop of a small town, near Reutlingen. It was constructed on site of an original medieval fortress, which was crushed in 1802. It was rebuilt in a Romantic fantasy style. Tourists are allowed to enter the castle and stroll through the restored rooms, the armour collections, and the Gothic Chapel. The City Hall of 1966 and The “Tanners and Dyers” Fountain (1920) are a few sites that are usually explored by tourists visiting Reutlingen.
