Mini guide to Ravensburg
RavensburgLocated in the Upper Swabia on the southern tip of Germany, Ravensburg is a small town with a population around 50,000. The town covers over ninety-two square kilometres. It is also the capital of the district of Ravensburg, Baden-Wurttemberg. Its beginnings date back to over 1000 years.
The historic town of Ravensburg has much of its historic features still intact. There are ten towers found within the town from a medieval fort. Old town gates are found within the town as well. The Church of Our Lady is a beautiful church that attracts many tourists each year. It dates back to the fourteenth century.
The Weissenau, a very old monastery dating back to early eighteenth century can be found just three kilometres south of the centre of the town. Ceiling paintings adorn the old monastery making it a beautiful site to see. There is a small castle found in the town that dates back to the middle of the eighteenth century that is worth a short walk through many lovely gardens. The municipal Museum can be found at the old Vogthaus. Vogthaus was built in the fourteenth century. Within the museum there are very old sculptures and tourists can learn much about the history of the town.
There is a popular festival in Ravensburg each summer. It is known as the Rutenfest. Many tourists visiting the town choose to do so during the summer season in order to take celebrate this festival amongst other tourists as well as the townspeople.
