Queensland Guide

Guide

Known as Australia’s sunshine state, Queensland contains some of the country’s most sought after attractions. Over 4000 miles of coastline greet travellers. From the bustling streets of the capital, Brisbane, to the hundreds of beaches that dot the coast, the huge state demands weeks, not days, to truly appreciate its diverse splendour, and car hire in Queensland makes perfect sense. Cairns and Townsville are gateways to the Great Barrier Reef, but the Gold Coast still stands as the state’s premier tourism spot.

Hiring a Vehicle

Avis and Budget are just two of the options for visitors wanting a rental car and their offices, along with those of many other companies can be accessed at major airports and towns throughout the state. The stunning coastal and rural landscapes are best explored via a private, comfortable vehicle. Tourists are advised to compare car hire prior to leaving for their Queensland holiday.

Transport Options

Brisbane International Airport is the largest air gateway into the state, although other major airports are at Cairns, the Gold Coast and Townsville. Regional airports are found throughout the state. Queensland Rail connects Brisbane to the Gold Coast. A sleeper train also operates from southeast Queensland to the northern reaches. The Bruce Highway travels up Queensland’s coastal spine, and the Warrego Highway gives tourists access to the Darling Downs.

Car Hire Driving Tips in Queensland

Police enforce road rules quite strictly in Queensland, especially when it comes to speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol. Most highways boast limits of 100km/h to 120km/h. Roads and highways are generally safe and in great condition, but extra care should be taken on the busy Bruce Highway. Many accidents are caused by driver fatigue in Queensland. Therefore, motorists are advised to take a rest or book a motor-inn when tired.

Not to be Missed!

Brisbane is the capital, and boasts some interesting sites. However, tourists should discover the Sunshine Coast, just an hour north of the city. Use car rental in Queensland to drive up the coast, where tourists can experience Hervey Bay, Townsville, Airlie Beach, Cairns, and many other coastal settlements with access to the Great Barrier Reef. Two hours west of the capital is the garden city known as Toowoomba.

Weather & Tourist Seasons

Queensland experiences a sub-tropical to temperate climate in the south, and a tropical climate in the north. Visiting between the months of September and November, or March and April enables tourists to miss the brunt of the wet season. Temperatures average around 25°C during these months. Winter temperatures in Queensland’s south can drop below 0°C in inland rural areas.

Yes, we offer a guarantee of the lowest price - because we compare various retailers, we can always offer you the best price in town.

What do I need to do when picking up a car?

To pick up your car, you will need your voucher, passport, driver's license and a credit card. It is very important that your driver's license and credit card are in the same name as the main driver. Keep in mind that the local rental company will reserve a certain amount on your credit card as a deposit. This requires the PIN code for your credit card. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.

Are there any additional costs?

In general, our rates are all-inclusive. Should there be any additional costs, our booking department will get in touch with you before issuing the invoice. Should you object, you can always cancel your reservation with no obligations attached (at least 48 hours in advance).

Your vehicle will be provided and must be returned with a full tank of fuel. With a vehicle from our Worry-Free selection, you can travel with peace of mind and no hidden costs.

How can I change or cancel my reservation?

You can cancel your reservation through "My Account". We recommend contacting us by phone if your changes to your booking or cancellation takes place at short notice (48 hours or less).
