Car Rental Quebec City - Exploring Quebec City
Exploring the Québec City area by car
If the historical charm of Québec City isnt enough for you, theres plenty more to see within the area, and a little further a field are the cities of Montreal and Ottawa.
Grosse Île, a small island, has a curious past as a quarantined section, and tours of its 150-year old frozen-in-time remains is fascinating. The tours are conducted from a marina in the village of Berthier sur Mer, 60kms south of Québec City. Nearby, the Île d'Orléans is a highly popular holiday destination due to its centuries-old cottages and manors, abundant galleries of island art, and lovely river-enhanced scenery.
Wendake is a reconstructed Native American village, abut 15kms from the city, and gives a fascinating insight into aspects of the local culture, including displays of a traditional longhouses and sweat lodges. The Huron-Wendat tribe gifted the country its name in the form of Kanata (meaning settlement).
If youre looking for some of the expansive wilderness that covers Canada, find your way to Parc de la Jacques Cartier, 40kms north. Its perfect for canoeing (a national stereotyped obsession), biking, walking or even cross-country skiing. Several other lovely parks are situated nearby.
Several hours drive to the south is another of Canadas great cities; Montreal.
Famous for its relaxed atmosphere and very livable environment, the city is named from the park-covered Mont Royal, a striking geological structure that's often mistaken for an extinct volcano. The cobblestone streets of Montreal's old precinct are lined with stone houses, Paris-like cafes and architectural beauties. Such as the 18th-century Pointe à Callière (Museum of Archaeology and History).
