Located on the northern coast of the Dominican Republic, Puerto Plata International Airport has grown enormously in recent years. In the period from 1999 to 2003, passenger numbers increased more than tenfold, going from 150,000 to more than two million. Airlines serving the airport include: American Airlines, Continental, Finnair, Lauda Air, Northwest Airlines, Novair Airlines, Premiair and TWA.

A single-level terminal building caters for all domestic, international and charter flights. Once inside the terminal building, you will find a bank, post office, currency exchange bureau and ATM machines.

The airport has a good selection of restaurants, cafés and bars, and there is a wide range of both duty-free and regular shopping available. Those who require special assistance or wheelchairs should notify their airlines when booking their flight. Specially fitted toilets and ramps are located across the airport. Designated parking areas are available in the car park opposite the terminal.

An airport information desk is centrally located in the terminal building, and there is also a tourist help desk. Puerto Plata International Airport is 18kms from the city, and is easily accessed by both private and public transportation. The airport can be reached by car via well signposted roads. Taxis and minivans are available from outside the terminal building and run to central Puerto Plata and other nearby locations.

There is one car park which offers 160 short-term and 160 long-term parking spaces located directly opposite the terminal building. There is a pick-up and drop-off area right outside the terminal entrance, and assistance is available for the mobility impaired.
