Being the oldest among all the resorts of Tenerife, Puerto de la Cruz is located at the north of the island and attracts people by hordes. Agreed there are comparatively newer ones on the southern sides and Puerto de la Cruz suffers from some amounts of negative publicity (remember, the accident at the Los Rodeos Tenerife North Airport?), but the recent times have proved Puerta de la Cruz's return to glory as a tourist spot. The chief reason behind the resurrection is definitely the Loro Parque; next to it, stands the swimming pool complex of Lago Martianez, more because of its proximity to the waterfront.

The population is a compendium of local residents and the tourists; therefore, a visitor is guaranteed to have the best of both worlds. It is the fishing village heritage that still scores the highest on the tour books but it's not mandatory for a visitor; instead, the water sport lover may indulge in the risky pleasures of the Playa Jardin. The artistic mind may find solace at Plaza Charco if not the museums; it still stands as the central hub within a filigree of architecture that was influenced by the inhabitants of the Canary Islands and equally fascinating shops and eateries.

If you are in the mood for some luxury, then Parque Taoro is the place you should hit. Also famous as the joggers' paradise, if you are in the mood for it, you may as well go jogging for a bath at the saltwater pools at Costa Martianez.

To pick up your car, you will need your voucher, passport, driver's license and a credit card. It is very important that your driver's license and credit card are in the same name as the main driver. Keep in mind that the local rental company will reserve a certain amount on your credit card as a deposit. This requires the PIN code for your credit card. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.
