Mini guide to Pontarlier Rail Station
Pontarlier Rail Station
Pontarlier is a charming and historic town situated in eastern France in the Franche-Comte region. The city is a popular tourist destination close to the border with Switzerland.
The French high speed rail network (TGV) travels direct from Paris to Pontarlier twice a day with a travel time of around three hours. Trains leaving from Lyon to Pontarlier take around two hours.
The Pontarlier Rail Station is conveniently located close to the town centre. The station has basic facilities such as toilets, newsagents, ATMs and vending machines. There are restaurants and cafes located outside of the station.
The town of Pontarlier was famous for the production of absinthe alcohol until 1915, when it was banned. Since then the ban has been partially lifted and this has resulted in some distilleries once again producing absinthe. The town was also mentioned in the well known novel ‘Les Miserables’ written by Victor Hugo.
With many attractions outside of the town’s centre and the scenic countryside, hiring a car is advised to get the most out of your holiday. Car rentals can be booked online with us in advance to ensure the best deal available. A hire car can be arranged for collection from anywhere in town, including at the Pontarlier Rail Station.
