Mini guide to Plauen
PlauenThe city of Plauen is in the state of Saxony. It is situated in eastern Germany near the border of the Czech Republic. Recent reports have stated that the population is slightly less than 70,000. This is a dramatic decrease when compared to the post World War II era. The area was founded by the Slavs around 1100.
Plauen is known for its lace or fine cloth. It was around the late 1800s when lace was made in the area. A few decades later Plauen was a major economic centre due to its lace manufacturing. Lace still accounts for the majority of the city’s revenue. There is a lace museum found in the Old Town Hall that allows tourists to see how lace was traditionally made. There are guided tours throughout the city provided by knowledgeable guides. The Vogtland Saxony Museum is a popular stop for many on the excursions. It is located within the town hall as well. St. Johannis Church is another popular tourist attraction and has two towers. Also, the Lutheran Church is a commonly visited tourist attraction.
The Plauen countryside attracts countless tourists every year. It is very charming and has a unique appeal. The Malt House is another stop made by many tourists travelling through the city.
