Mini guide to Passau
PassauPassau is a city which has been strategically placed at the confluence of three mighty rivers which are the Danube, Inn and Ilz Rivers. Passau is part of the The Federal Republic of Germany in the Bavarian State and close to the Austrian border. From Munich you can reach Passau easily as it is only 150 kilometres away. Passau has been rightly called the Three River City because it lies on a stretch of land which looks more like a long tongue between these three rivers.
This city faces the wooded cliffs and the fortress of Oberhaus which can be found on the left bank of the River Danube. This fortress is truly interesting and it was built in 1219 by Bishop Ulrich II. This city is predominantly Catholic and has many historic buildings and a University. Though you can expect a warm weather in summer it can also get pretty hot, but in winter you can expect to find plenty of snow.
Most of the people here speak English so you can feel comfortable when going to the local restaurants and shops in the city centre. This city is ideal for walking around as most places are located at short distances from each other. It is also so close to Austria that by walking for 20 minutes you can get to the border. The city buses are cheap and you can use them too if you feel tired of walking around.
In Pasaau, you can see the world’s biggest organ at Dom St. Stephan’s church and you can also visit the Bavarian forest if you love to see animals. You can attend the Maypole festival held in Austria which is usually in May.
