Car Hire in Omaha - Getting to Omaha
Omaha's Eppley Airport is served by many major domestic carriers. There are few direct flights from overseas to the capital, so you will likely be routed through a larger airport. In the western part of the state, the town of Aurora has a municipal airport, and short hops are available to Omaha.
Navigating the areas between Omaha and Lincoln is easy, as they are both on I-80. However, if you plan on visiting the rural areas outside of Omaha and Lincoln, buying a state road map is recommended. The state's highways will get you everywhere you want to go, but sometimes in a roundabout fashion.
The interstates that travel though Omaha include I-80, which runs east from the city all the way to Newark, New Jersey just south of New York City, and westward through Salt Lake City, Reno, Nevada and finally on to San Francisco. I-76 splits off from I-80 in the western part of Nebraska and goes on to Denver Colorado. I-29 comes down from South Dakota, through the western part of Iowa, to Omaha and on south to Kansas City.
Omaha and Lincoln are on Amtrak's Chicago-San Francisco line. From Chicago, it is possible to get trains going all over the east coast; while from San Francisco, it is easy to get to anywhere on the west coast.
Greyhound buses run to destinations throughout the state and cities in the region, with connections to cities farther afield. Bus is the cheapest but least comfortable option.
