However, things came to an abrupt halt when an explosion blew up the gunpowder factory and the next that followed was a railway network and a Kindergarten.

Since the 1880s, Olbernhau started flourishing as a proper town with a hospital and gas streetlights; this was due to the development of gasworks in the area till electrical power took over twelve years later. It was not until 1902 that the town privileges were officially granted to Olbernhau and as a result, the Art Deco Tivoli (a concert hall and ball room) came into existence, followed by a widened Marked Bridge and a public swimming pool.
