The mighty Niagara falls are best seen from the Canadian side, which is why a booming tourist town has established itself on the northern bank of the gorge. Twelve million people flock here annually to appreciate the sheer power and majestic beauty of one of the world’s most impressive natural attractions.

The roaring Horseshoe Falls belongs on Canada’s half of the frontier and viewing platforms make it possible to almost touch the water as it pours over the 50m high precipices. There are also tunnels under the falls, open to the public. Every minute, an average of 168,000 cubic meters of water plunges over the mile long series of falls into the maid of the mists pool at the bottom. From the Canadian side you also get the best views of the Bridal veil falls, over on the American side. During winter large chunks of ice abut the precipice, adding a dramatic element to the falls. One of the best ways to experience the awesome power is a boat ride among the mist and spray beneath the falls. Above the falls there is a Spanish aero car (gondola) in which you can ride above the falls, but it isn’t for the faint hearted!

When you get bored of the falls, the town has plenty of entertainment to offer and has become a popular destination for honeymooners. Casino Niagara is a busy and lively draw card, but the entire town is full of neon, with plenty of entertainment options, including and Imax theatre, the Butterfly Conservatory, Botanical garden and Ripley’s Believe It or Not. There are also great views of the falls and entire area from the top of the Minolta and Skylon towers.
