Car Hire in New Zealand - Getting to New Zealand
New Zealand is miles from anyway, therefore almost all visitors arrive by air. There are international airports at Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown (limited service). The majority of flights arrive in Auckland, most flights come from (or via) Australia, but there are also regular flights to Pacific destinations. Fares arent cheap, but good package deals are offered to Queensland. Few cruise ships visit New Zealand and the only other option is to arrive by private sail yacht.
Auckland has direct flights connecting to the west coast of the USA, London and Frankfurt and several cities in Asia. Connections locally are numerous. The airport is 21km south-west of the city centre and shuttles run to the Downtown Airline Terminal at the waterfront.
Christchurch is the main gateway to the South Island, with flights to Australia, and a limited number of other countries. It's 11km from the city, not overly busy but has excellent facilities and regular shuttles to the city. There are also frequent connections to the rest of the South Island.
