Car Hire in New York - Getting to New York
New York is served by three major airports - John F Kennedy Airport (JFK), 24km from Midtown Manhattan in southeastern Queens, is where most international flights land. La Guardia Airport in northern Queens is 13km from Manhattan and services mostly domestic flights. Newark Airport is in New Jersey, directly west of Manhattan and is the nicest of the three. Buses run from various points in the city centre (centrally, Chelsea/Madison square gardens) to all three airports every half an hour and are far cheaper than taxis.
Pennsylvania Station, on 33rd St between Seventh and Eighth Aves, is the departure point for all Amtrak trains. There are also local trains servicing the suburbs, New Jersey and Long Island - also leaving from here.
The Port Authority Bus Terminal at 41st St and Eighth Ave in midtown Manhattan is the departure point for all long-haul and suburban buses. Services include Greyhound to most major cities in the US and local services to New Jersey, Long Island and upstate New York. This is the cheapest by least comfortable means of travelling.
Getting to Manhattan by car is easy with major highways entering from all directions. The Connecticut Turnpike (I-95) and Long Island Expressway enter from the east. The I-95 connects to Boston, Philadelphia and Washington DC.
